Bit torrant sounds really cool. I might have to check it out, unless the police are in on it. I would love to be able to download stuff that fast. I do see the problem with all of the P2P swapping. It technically does violate the copyright laws. I think the industries charge too much and pay the actors to much. which is probably part of the reason the charge an arm and a leg for movies. I buy movies all the time.I have yet to download one, only clips of movies. I don't like the actual guy, Cohen. I do not like egomaniacal people. They bother the crap out of me.

Startup.com

I liked the video. I thought that if Tom stepped down as Co-CEO, and just went about his business/area. Then I think the company would've succeeded. Khaliel knew what he wanted to do, but Tom always stuck his nose into to what Khliael was saying. Since I cant' spell it, The guy whose name starts with K, was passionate about his job and the product/service that he was trying to sell into investors. Tom was kind of clueless on how to talk to the investors. I think the "K" man was a little rough on Tom, but he had to get his point across. I think that their idea was good but the way they implemented it could've been done better. They still had a lot of problems when they went live. I think the should've just had a webpage, thats said GovWorks coming soon, until all the bugs were worked out.

The K man left a great job to join the GovWorks crew. I think that he did the right thing, but there were too many indians and not enough chiefs in this organization. The communication was not as well as it should be. They all had different views, but never really talked to each other. I think that letting Tom go was a bad idea. He was good for he company and was positive, but he needed to realize, that he wasn't a CEO. He was still a partner and everything, but He was too stubborn to relinquish power.

I think this was a great learning tool. I want to start a business and i learned some things to do and not to do. My friends and I are starting a business for their band, kind of like the Grateful Dead and Phish. They both had corporations and both still make tons of money. This video made me understand, that you can't have power struggles and communication is very key.

I think they relationship between the "K" man and Tom is strained, hopefully they can remain good friends, but I am not sure it will happen. I know ow to seperate business from personal. It is a hard thing to do.

I realize how hard it is to "beg" for money. Khalil was great at expressing what the business does. He was good at getting money from the investors and talking to them. Tom made it hard for the investors to believe that the company had their stuff together. Tom would pipe up about stuff that the company wasn't even close to doing yet, but could eventually. I think that Tom hurt the company. GovWorks could've got more money if Tom stayed at the office. I also thing it was a good and bad move to let the "competition" into the office. They ended up launching before GovWorks, which hurt their thunder.

Overall I think this movie was great, thanks for showing it. I would like to see the followup to it.

Blog "get out my namespace"

The whole topic of name ownership, to me is unbelievable. Especially when your real name is different from your "stage name", like Bill Wyman. I think that it is ridiculous to serve somebody a "cease and desist" order to a guy whose real name is Bill Wyman. That is outrageous.

The cybersquatter from Alberta, Canada, Jeff Burgar has some interesting claims. He officially owns peoples names, for website usage, but some of the domain names do not have sites yet. I think that part is wrong, but registering BruceSpringsteen.com for a Bruce Springsteen fan club should be fine. which, he managed to hold on to that name but has lost other case to contain names.

I understand if you have a copyrighted name, like Coca-Cola or McDonalds. These are trademarked names and should not be used by anyone but the company. If your name just happens to be Ronald McDonald, I think it should be fine to use it for a website. If someone uses cocacola.com or Nike.com, then they should lose the court battle.

In my opinion, no one has the right to sue some one over a "real" name. If there was another Josh Lemieux in the world, that had Joshlemieux.com, there is nothing i would do. He has the right to that name, just like I do. If I had the domain name, and the other Josh Lemieux was famous, IF it was that much of a big deal to him, we could reach a financial agreement. I think it is truly ridiculous to sue someone over a name. If you could do that, I am sure David Bowie would have sued Davy Jones from the Monkees for making a joke out of David Bowie's real name, David Jones.

People is this world , just want everything, or expect everything. Famous people get away with so much crap, that it can be intimidating for the little guy to stand up to them. The courts have to decide what is right and wrong in this area, and not flip-flop and change their minds. Famous People and corporations think they are above the law. Even Jeff Burgar thinks so, he registered many famous domain names but has done anything with them. I think that is wrong and should be stopped.

Blog Entry #3--DRM

The whole DRM topic is very confusing to me. What is right and what is wrong. I think region coding is wrong. If i buy a dvd in europe, i want to play it in my dvd player in america. How is this fair or even legal? If I buy a dvd and i want to put it on to a vhs tape like the lady in the article, so my kids dont destroy the dvd, what is wrong with that? I understand why artists complain about copyrighting and everything. The labels screw the artists in paying anyways, but that is my opinion. The major corporations are the ones that control everything and are the "MAN". The "MAN" always try to hold people down.

DRM is bad for everyone, not just business, consumers as well. It is pretty much setting a high price. The whole Lexmark situation in the article is ridiculous. Another company makes a product that imitates theirs but at a lower price, as a retail veteran, it is called competition. Every major conglomerate wants to corner every market. Competition is good for business and consumers. If you product is better then your competitions, it will be bought, even if it is a little more expensive, but if your product is better and is at an astronomical price, the other product will be sufficient.

The codes will be broken and every code will be placed on a website, somehere. Everyone in america will get arrested from breaking codes.

Every product with DRM will be expensive and people will find other ways around. We always do. We, the consumers are not made of money and eventually we will stop buying certain products.

DRM is BAD

Web sites into web goners

The biggest one that I know of that has spent millions of dollars promoting was Pets.com. I remember a lot of advertising during the Super Bowl one year. They went down very quick. Amazon, Ebay, and Yahoo have been very successful with the e-biz. This is a very good medium that many people are just realizing. Record Companies have dropped much of their A&R, and are no looking at bands with websites. Many bands, in return are setting up websites and sending links to record companies. Everyone uses the internet, so it is the best place to market products, hence the pop-ups. It takes a lot to make it in the e-biz. You have to have a product that is in demand, or the finances to make it long term.

Piracy/O'Reilly article

I think O'Reilly hit this dead on. I download music and if I like what I download, I am going to go and buy the real thing. Musicians should be glad people are downloading their music. It means they are popular. Most people I know just download music to put on their laptop or to make mix CD's. If I like the group, I am going to support them. Someimes, obscure bands get helped out by downloading as well. I have downloaded some weird things and ended up going out to buy the cd. Most artists do not make oo much money off of the sale of their albums. They make their money on touring. The whole article is pretty much corporate america whining and complaining about money. Most of them are filthy rich anyways. The people that complain the most about piracy are the greedy artists that want more money, like Metallica. Many small, lesser nown acts
I also download a lot of live music from concerts. I dont see what the problem is with that. I like what some bands are doing now to prevent some piracy. Pearl Jam releases almost all of their concerts on cd. Phish was releasing 5 live cds, from their archives, a year. Dave Matthews Band releases some live CD's as well.
I like the point that O'Reilly makes about shoplifting being a bigger threat then piracy. It is so true. As a retail worker, I see so much theft not get caught. If the theft is not caught, the store onhands get screwed up. The cd will still be in the system but nowhere in the store. I have had this happen to me many times. If several people are looking for the same cd and you supposedly have some instock but can not locate them, thats several lost sales. piracy leads to sales. I want good quality when I listen on my home stereo or in my car, not the crappy quality from peer to peer sharing. In my retail experiences, book publishers should have nothing to worry about. When they pull books off the shelf. Thjey throw the books away anyways. Why waste the paper and just print them out at home. It would save the book publishers a lot of money in printing.
In conclusion, I think Itunes is a great invention. I like that it is monitored a little. I just think they should charge a little less, but maybe some day. I think it is good to monitor it, but at least let the crappy sites like Limewire exist. They have more obscure and live downloads. I like downloading, but I also like the real thing. Maybe all this downloading will be a slap in the face to wake up the corporations.
